• Any Ireland website want to join my likkle Baby in the UK

Hi, I am a member of Affiliates 4U and they suggested I put the following thread on your website, It is my first time here so if it is in the wrong place please move it. Hi I am wondering if any Ireland Travel website would be interested in exchange links from my website that covers England, Scotland & Wales. I suppose I'd like an across the channel link, where people in Ireland thinking of holidaying in the UK would be directed to my website and I would do it the other way round. I also would like a noticeable graphic link, not something tucked away on a links page or some corner. In return for a decent link I would give that one website any traffic that came to mine from a front page link for Ireland. I am thinking mutual exchange and have no intentions of considering costs on either side, this could be about helping each other with a simple link across. I have no intentions of ever entering Ireland with my website, so a link would be great. As for traffic I promise you nothing, therefore whatever you get is a bonus, I only expect the same back, however I am working hard on my website, I try and be fair with everyone and I would hope we could help each other not just a link but a noticeable link, if not what is the point. • Whats on your Google Analytics Dashboard

Hi guys, Normally I use statcounter to check out the statistics of my sites. I don't usually login to my GA account but I will using it more regularly in the coming weeks and months. Just wondering how people have customised the dashboard. Which widgets have you surfaced to your dashboard?

• Silverlight

Anybody out there using Silverlight? Anybody even have it installed on their machine? I only installed it for the first time this morning. Just wondering what the take-up is like with regards to Silverlight. One of the guys in work seems to think it's a big deal (http://en.blog.ammado.com/technology/silverlight-is-a-big-deal/). That article is pretty good actually. Gives a nice overview of Silverlight.

• Moving a website

I've pointed the DNS servers to the new hosts address last Saturday, and according to one domain check tool it shows its pointed correctly to the new host and by another domain check tool it says its still with the old host! It is still is with the old host 5 days later! and wondering is this normal because it usually takes only between a couple of hours to 2 days. Is there anyway to check how soon it will be moved as I want to update the website

• FilesDirectories being indexed

I was doing a little link checking on Derek Knight Photography (http://www.derekknight.net) and notice that Google, Yahoo, MSN etc are all indexing parts of the sites such as Index of /commercial/cfw (http://www.derekknight.net/commercial/cfw/?D=A) Index of /commercial/europa (http://www.derekknight.net/commercial/europa/?M=A) etc etc There are no pages there - just views of the directories etc and old pages which are half new design and half old. Is there a good way to stop this from happening and what are the consequences? Thanks all!

I have been reading up on accessibility issues lately and was looking at a bank statement last night and was wondering, how can accessibility be improved in that sort of situation where a large table with name, and credits and debits are listed?

• Copywriting

how do people work the text content as developers. I have mainly asked the clients for a selction of writing that they have about their business [from brochures, magazine articles etc] ( and also they have any ideas themslves about what content to put on the site ) but typically i find it hard enough to get them motivated - i have wondered if it would be better to just write the content myself based on what (usually) little I know about the business (as compared to the owners etc.) ...... the irony being that the best person to write the content is usually a) not the best at coming up with it and b)probably way too busy to sit down and spend the time writing :confused:

Are there any applications which you can install on your pc to validate the css and html of a page. I know there are tools with firefox but the code cannot leave our workstations so has to be done there.

• Content Plagiarism Check

Ah-hoy, Does anyone know of a site whereby you can copy and paste some content to check if it has been plagiarised? I have received a few proposals from some content writers and I'm trying to check their work. I have Googled large chunks of their writings but I'm interested in using a specific plagiarism script. I know that copyscape checks for content which is already on the web but I have received these proposals in Private Messages / Emails..

Been playing with both N95 and iPhone in recent days and noticing that some websites look well on both, others look quite awful. Should a site be designed specifically for mobiles? keeping it seperate from the main online site, or should it just be dealt with through CSS?

Hello all. I am running a test of Joomla (http://www.ufpst.co.uk/Joomla), in the hope now of expanding it, and relaunching my STAR TREK web site. Now, as you can see, I have the link structure set up as follows: _STAR TREK_ > Season 1 > Season 2 > Season 3 OK, so to explain, each season category I want it to store about 30 episode entries. Can someone tell me the best way to set up Joomla so that its: STAR TREK ---> This is one section (which allows categories) > Season 1 ---> is another section (which allows around 30 articles) What is the best method of setting this up? There is an interesting article in this months edition of “Smart Company” called Web Aware. Many of the posters on this forum contributed to the article. I was interested to see the different opinions expressed in the article, especially between Web Hosts and Web Developers. One Irish web host is quoted as saying “It’s expensive and annoying to deal with web designers” As this is a webmaster forum, how many of you out there would class themselves as annoying? In my opinion Tom Doyle actually rescued the article in favour of the Web Design / Development industry. What’s your opinion of the article? .

• Redevelopment of my Site

Hello. Recently I have been playing around with some new designs for my STAR TREK fan site. The site provides the latest news, episode guides, features and discussion forums. Now, over the past six months or so I have attempted 2 or 3 designs for a new look based on my current layout and setup - none I felt conveyed what I set out to achieve. Now, after looking at some new web 2.0 sites, I have an idea of what I would like to achieve with the new site. I feel that it is time to move forward and embrace some new ideas and elements with the site. For instance, I would like to create a personaled home page, where people can register and determine there own content, and (inspired by iGoogle and BBC) moveable content areas too. Now, I have these ideas, I just do not know where or how to begin with the design/implementation. Can anyone help guide me in the start? What is the best method of achieving my 'dream' as it is? Hi folks, I'm confused whether I need to subscribe on following RSS Code: --------- http://www.ft.com/rss/world --------- The news on my website are now RSS-feed by them via a PHP parser. Vistors browsing my site can read their news on PC. I suppose if they update their news my website will also be updated simultaneously. If I'm wrong please correct me. TIA B.R. satimis
