• Where to buy software (licenses)I need to get copies of Adobe web premium for 2 designer/developers. I remember reading somewhere before that paying for the licenses and downloading from the US was the most cost effective way to go. Walking in to a shop is the worst thing I could do. So what software do you use and where did you get it? Source: IrishWebMasterForums |

• Maintenance Contracts - help neededI am looking at a project at the moment where the client has requested a maintenance contract. This is a project which is aimed at getting me involved in their orverall web strategy and, understandably, they would like the comfort factor of knowing I am available to help out whenever they run into a problem. My usual proposal invoves a golive date followed by an hourly rate for changes thereafter, but this is a different type of project for me. I would greatly appreciate any advice people might have on maintenance contracts, both in what kinds of costs are involved and also how to ensure it suits, and protects, both the client and the contractor - without being so legalese it puts a client off! many thanks for any pointers/links/advice/help! • Advice on terms and conditionsI was wondering if anyone knows where I can get advice on "terms and conditions" for my site on Dublinbynumbers.com (http://www.dublinbynumbers.com)? I figured that I should have some terms and conditions for advertisers and people who want to be listed on the site, but don't have a clue about that end of things. Source: IrishWebMasterForums |

• Who is responsible for contentI always specify that my clients come up with the text content. I will assist in collating the information, finding spelling and grammar mistakes, etc. as a courtesy. I recommend the services of a trusted copywriter if content might be an issue. And this is explained to the client from the word go and in the contract. I currently have a client, who some ways into the project, is incredulous that we don't produce the content. Do some web designers here see content provision as their role? • Where can we get stock imagesphotos for use in client projectsI was going to post earlier regarding "where one can get stock images/photos" for inclusion on website templates which will be sold. I see a lot of people tend to use specifically iStockPhoto, but I have a few concerns. I want to do things right, and don't want to infringe copyright or create any scope for illegal action. What caught my eye in the bottom of this page: How to Buy Stock Photos And Images | iStockphoto.com (http://www.istockphoto.com/introduction_1.php) is: "Your license is for one computer / one user" Then in this page: iStockphoto License Agreement | iStockphoto.com (http://www.istockphoto.com/license.php) is: "For example, you cannot superficially modify the Content, print it on a t-shirt, mug, poster, *template *or other item, and sell it to others for consumption, reproduction or re-sale." Now further down the 2nd page it says, that you can use the images on "web pages to a maximum of 800 x 600 pixels". So does this ultimately mean, I can purchase an image from iStockPhoto, and use it on any website that I'm not selling. Such as my own website, etc. But not on a website I develop for a client. If that is the case, then where can we purchase stock images/photos that we can legally use on a client's website? Source: IrishWebMasterForums |

• Outsource to India. Wordpress Joomla TemplatesHi Everyone, I'd like to commission some templates to be built for Open Source Software. Primarily looking at getting some Joomla templates and Wordpress templates made cheaply in India. I'm wondering what website is best to post to for this kind of request and what I should expect to pay for something that is of decent (no perfect) quality. Also if anyone has done this before and has any advice I'm all ears. Its not for a client, the templates are for me to provide to the Open Source Community. I'd create them myself, but I have such little time these days to do it myself and I'm a bit of a Web Standards Perfectionist. Also should I do a mockup in Photoshop first or just let them come up with a design concept? Also apologies if this is in the wrong section. Source: IrishWebMasterForums |
