A car dealership in Dublin has become the first in Ireland to face charges connected with a suspected price fixing cartel.
The charges were brought against a dealer from Dublin at a sitting of Dublin District Court this morning.
Recently the Competition Authority carried out an investigation into the car sales industry.
Arising out of that investigation the Director of Public Prosecutions has already brought charges against one man accused of organising an alleged cartel.
He is awaiting trial and is due to appear in court in March.
However today four charges connected with the case were brought against the dealer, which runs a car sales showroom in Dublin.
This morning Michael O’Donovan on behalf of the DPP told the District Court that four charges are being brought against the firm.
He applied to have the case adjourned for six weeks to prepare the book of evidence.
The garage spoke-person said he had no objection to the application.
The case is due for mention again on 18 February 2008.
However it is likely that further charges arising out of the investigation are likely to be brought forward in the meantime.
