broadband internet connection using the Three Data Modem
under LINUX. Despite the fact that Three denies support
for Linux the hardware operates fine on Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu,
Mandriva and Gentoo Linux systems.

A detailed information sheet can be found at:
http://kerry-linux.ie/broadband/three-datamodem.pdf

And the software used to get the connection started is here:
http://kerry-linux.ie/broadband/three.tar

I hope this makes life easier for many of us living in remote
areas and those being on the move from time to time.

Regards

I bought a sexy NAS drive (QNAP 209 Pro) and have it hooked up to my Router and configured and working fine.

I want to enable the FTP service and allow remote login but I am on a dynamic IP address and the device IP address changes every day. It looks like the NAS supports DDNS using the dyndns.com service and this would remedy the IP address problem.

I can see where in the NAS countrol panel this option is BUT I have also found the DDNS and dyndns.com options in the Router's control panel too.

So I'm wondering which would be best to enter my dyndns settings into.

Again - all new to me so I may be getting my terms mixed up

In the past on a PC I was used to the editors and their ways of things.
Now I'm just finding things different.

For example I work on multiple projects where would be best to store them ?

In the past I set a folder c:\Projects and worked from within there with all my projects located there. It worked pretty well I set that up as the root for my webserver ... then when moving across to linux based systems it worked pretty well.

I've installed Xampp on this machine (obviously I couldn't exactly install wampserver any more :D ) and it now means my root web folder is located at /Applications/Xampp/htdocs

I guess I'm just really thinking out loud as I really just want to get up and running properly (or as properly as possible) as quickly as possible

I've gone with Komodo editor as my editor of choice for the moment though from the other thread on editors it would appear I should give textmate a once over as well.

Cheers,

What is the story with running XP on a VM

For example ... I don't have my XP install on any other machine and I install it on a VM ... I'm legal I presume.

I copy said VM ... copy ... paste .. and hey presto I've technically got two machines running XP .. ? I may only run one instance of this VM at any one time but is it legal to have the copy ? or to run one or the other ?

I run two VMs of the XP machine ... is this legal ? ... Its technically only on the one hardware machine so ...

I guess I probably should read more through VMware site

My trial for VMware runs out in 3 days so I'm just trying to figure out all my options :)

<date_added>2008-05-28 23:59:04 GMT</date_added>
Desktop-Computer-Issues

Whats wrong with Vista

I thought this might make interesting conversation.
